What a wild ride we’re on at the Rainshadow Rodeo
The frenzied abundance of summer fades as we settle into the winter season at the farm. It all comes together for us in November. We cross the finish line of harvest and storage, and we finally get to eat. Gratitude and relief are at the center of this time. We gather the farm family. We burn the relentless weeds of summer – an epic pile of plant matter, labor, and emotion. We bake our taters, our squash, our ungodly sized carrots. We revel in the fruits of our labor.
We give intentional thanks to our community of people who commit to this farm and the food it produces: thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Thanks for all the washing, chopping, peeling you do to sex up our food for your dinner table. Thanks for letting us feed you here at the farm. Most of all, thanks for choosing us to feed you and your family – it literally keeps our purpose of supporting a community dedicated to eating delicious food and passion for a sustainable existence on this earth ALIVE.
This November, in the face of notable social and political rifting, we hold fast to our passion and purpose. We show up for our critters every day to keep them warm and healthy. We clean and test the seeds that we saved this year, to grow next year. We map out the fields with crop rotation and exciting varietals. We get ready to produce the food that matters to our people. As my dad would say, “We hang tough together.”

We’re already getting ready for next season and we’re looking for folks who want to eat from this place. When you join, we know how much food to grow. I guess we’ll be growing the food anyway, but it sure is nice to know who cares about eating it.
